Total UK personal debt

At the end of January 2009 the total UK personal debt stood at £1.45bn.
At the end of January 2009 the total secured lending on homes stood at £1,225bn.
This has slowed by 2.8% in the last 12 months.

Total consumer borrowing by individuals stood at £233bn. By the end of January 2009 This has seen a slowdown of 4.6% in the last 12 months.

In January 2009 total lending grew by £1.1bn; secured lending grew by almost £2.0bn in the month; consumer credit lending grew by £0.3bn By comparison the total lending in January 2008 grew by £8.4bn.

The average household debt in the UK is £9,550 (excluding mortgages). This figure increases to £21,750 if the average is based on the number of households who actually have some form of unsecured loan.

Average household debt in the UK is stands at £59,730 (including mortgages).
The average owed by every UK adult is £30,450 (including mortgages).

The average outstanding mortgage for the 11.7m households who currently have mortgages now stands at ~ £104,300.
